TRANSFORMING LIVES, CHANGING THE WORLD
Announcing our Paralegal Internship Course!
John F. Kennedy University ʼs Legal Studies Program is the only academic program in Northern California where students can achieve their Paralegal Certificate while working towards their Bachelorʼs Degree in Legal Studies. This rigorous program trains students to become effective paralegals through a curriculum that is focused on the practical application of substantive law requiring high-level critical thinking and legal analysis.
A critical course in the paralegal certificate curriculum is our paralegal internship course. Students who are in their last quarter and have completed both legal research and litigation with a B or better are eligible to apply for an internship. These positions are unpaid and offer the student 3 units of academic credit towards their paralegal certificate. This course requires students to work as paralegal interns for a minimum of 88 hours over our 11-week quarter, as well as to attend a class-room component. At the conclusion of the internship the sponsor will be asked to complete a short evaluation of the studentʼs work and the student will evaluate their experience.
This capstone course is often the studentʼs favorite in the program and certainly the time when the most practical learning occurs. I have also found the internship sponsors genuinely enjoy working with the paralegal students and find the experience rewarding. To date we have placed our students with both small and large firms in the local legal community, as well as public agencies such as the Alameda County Self-Help Clinic and Elder Law Clinic. However, we are always searching for more firms and corporate legal departments to place our interns.
Please contact me if you would like more information about the possibility of sponsoring a paralegal intern. I welcome the opportunity and thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
